Amy Kobalter, M.D.
Dr. Amy Kobalter grew up in Hamilton, New York. She moved west for college, graduating with distinction from Stanford University with a degree in Biological Sciences. At Stanford, she was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honors society in her junior year. She received her medical degree from the University of California, San Diego, where she was an ARCS (Achievement Rewards for College Scholars) scholarship recipient. After an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco Mt. Zion campus, she studied dermatology at the University of California, Davis, where she was Chief Resident in her third year.
Dr. Kobalter started her solo practice in Greenbrae in 1996. She co-founded Dermatology Consultants of Marin in 2001.
Dr. Kobalter focuses on medical dermatology, specializing in complex skin conditions and skin cancer. Dr. Kobalter is passionate about providing the most comprehensive care for her patients through meticulous examination and thoughtful treatment. Dr. Kobalter is consistently awarded Marin’s Top Doctor Award.
Dr. Kobalter lives in Marin, where she enjoys spending time with her family and taking her dogs on walks.
Ravinder S. Gogia, M.D.
Dr. Ravi Gogia is a board-certified dermatologist and a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon. Born and raised in California, he graduated with distinction from Stanford University and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honors society. He received his medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and earned Alpha Omega Alpha honors. After completing his internship in internal medicine at the Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, he returned to UCSF for dermatology residency. He then completed the prestigious Procedural Dermatology/Mohs Surgery fellowship at UCSF.
Dr. Gogia specializes in skin cancer surgery and Mohs surgery, the surgical technique that provides the highest cure rates for skin cancers with the best cosmetic outcomes. Additionally, he enjoys general medical and surgical dermatology and looks forward to helping his patients address their skin concerns with thoughtful and evidence-based treatment plans.
He is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS), and a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS).
In his free time, Dr. Gogia likes to travel and is active outdoors. He currently lives in Marin with his family.
Renee Howard, M.D.
Dr. Renee Howard was born at Marin General Hospital and grew up in Tiburon and San Anselmo. She attended local schools including Saint Anselms and Sir Francis Drake High School. She graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Biochemistry from UC Davis, then obtained her M.D. from University of California, San Francisco (U.C.S.F.).
Dr. Howard completed pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital Oakland, then practiced general pediatrics in San Francisco and Marin for four years with Doctors Piel, Patton, Aicardi, Gonda and Ernster. Seeing so many children with skin problems in pediatric practice sparked her interest in Dermatology. In 1992 she returned to UCSF for Dermatology residency. After her dermatology training, she was the Chief of Pediatric Dermatology at Children’s Hospital Oakland for four years.
Dr. Howard joined Dr. Kobalter in 1999 and spent many years splitting time between Marin and UCSF, where she continued to teach residents and attend Pediatric Dermatology clinics. In 2016, she became the Chief of Pediatric Dermatology at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland and UCSF Professor of Dermatology. Dermatology Consultants of Marin is fortunate that Dr. Howard is still able to see patients in our clinic one day a week. Her experience and expertise is appreciated by her patients and the local physicians who refer their patients to her.
Dr. Howard lives in Marin with her family.
Matthew Koehler, D.O.
Dr. Matthew Koehler grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He attended medical school at Touro University, where he graduated with honors in the top 2% of his class. After a medical internship, Dr. Koehler spent four years serving as a medical officer in the United States Navy. There he provided primary care medicine and oversaw a desert survival program for elite military personnel. After his Navy commitment was completed, Dr. Koehler then went on to complete a Dermatology residency at Western University of Health Sciences in Los Angeles, where he served as Chief Resident.
Dr. Koehler has a well-rounded and comprehensive approach to patient care. Dr. Koehler is committed to educating and helping his patients prevent and treat skin conditions of all kinds. He also has extensive training and experience in surgical and cosmetic dermatology. He is board certified, and he is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Osteopathic College of Dermatology, and a member of American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. He has also been an Associate Professor for the residency program at Western University.
His professional interests include surgical dermatology, skin cancer prevention, and medical dermatology. When not at work, Dr. Koehler enjoys reading, learning and spending time with his family.
Elizabeth Zettersten, M.D., F.A.A.D.
Dr. Elizabeth Zettersten is a Board-Certified Dermatologist and Fellowship-trained Cutaneous Oncologist. She worked several years at the Melanoma Center at the UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center where she specialized in malignant melanoma and in cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.
Dr. Zettersten’s accomplishments also include dermatological basic science research which she performed at the San Francisco VA Medical Center’s laboratories, as well as clinical research at the UCSF Melanoma Center and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
She is the lead author of numerous scientific articles published in scholarly journals, such as the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Journal of Investigative Dermatology.
In 1997 she was awarded the prestigious Dermatology Foundation Research Award.
Originally from Sweden, Dr. Zettersten pursued her Bachelor in Medical Sciences at the University of Bonn, Germany, and her Medical Degree at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, where she also completed a European Internship.
After successfully passing the United States Medical Licensing Examinations, she completed a U.S. Internship in Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Phoenix, Arizona, and was thereafter selected as a Resident at the Department of Dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco.
Dr. Zettersten is very enthusiastic about joining the team at the Dermatology Consultants of Marin, providing highly professional medical, cosmetic and surgical dermatology to the community.
In her spare time, Dr. Zettersten enjoys spending time with her family and young son in Marin. She is also an avid student of languages, currently mastering four languages fluently – working on her fifth.
Elaine Lin, M.D.
Dr. Elaine Lin is a Northern California native who graduated magna cum laude with honors and distinction at the University of California, San Diego. She earned a B.S. in Human Biology and a minor in Studio Art. She then obtained her medical degree at Loma Linda University where she was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha honors society and published multiple research articles in peer reviewed scientific journals. After completing an internal medicine internship at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, she returned to Northern California for her Dermatology residency at University of California, Davis.
Dr. Lin additionally completed a two-year post baccalaureate Bible School program, graduating with distinction in leadership. The skills she honed from the program translate into her empathetic and well-rounded approach to patient care in medicine.
Dr. Lin is excited to be part of such a cohesive team here at Dermatology Consultants of Marin. She aims to provide empathetic and tailored medical and surgical dermatologic care, as well as tasteful cosmetic treatments, such as Botox and fillers.
In addition to giving back to her medical community by teaching dermatology residents, Dr. Lin also enjoys pursuing her personal hobbies such as hiking, traveling, and oil painting.
Ellen Haddock, M.D.
Dr. Ellen Haddock grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and attended college at Harvard. She worked in tech in Silicon Valley and received her MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business before attending medical school and dermatology residency at the University of California San Diego. She is delighted to move back to the Bay Area to join the team at Dermatology Consultants of Marin.
She is passionate about helping patients feel more comfortable in their own skin. She has special interest in acne, hair loss, rashes, pediatric dermatology, and skin cancer prevention and early detection. She strives to provide practical solutions for her patients’ most frustrating skin challenges.
